Making a Rainbow Fish

Kit absolutely loves the Rainbow Fish series. If you're not familiar, Rainbow Fish is a very vain fish with a multitude of shiny scales. When other fish ask him to share, Rainbow Fish refuses until he realizes the joy of sharing.

It's not my favorite of her books, but unfortunately, she wants to read it almost every night. Someone got her the series of board books for Christmas, so at least it's not the same Rainbow Fish story every night!

First I drew Rainbow Fish. I sadly have the drawing skills of a second-grader, but Kit doesn't seem to mind.

I had prepared strips of green, purple, yellow, red, and orange paper, and I cut them into squares big enough for Kit to pick up with her little fingers.

We colored in parts of Rainbow Fish where the squares wouldn't fit, then began gluing the squares of colorful paper on.

We then used the glue to draw little squiggly lines in order to add glitter (every parent's favorite!) and added glue for the eyes. I couldn't find our regular-sized googly eyes, but the large ones worked out fine!

Kit was really happy with the way the Rainbow Fish turned out! Do your kids have any favorite books that they want to read nightly?

Until next time,

Jess
